The President of Moldova is elected every four years, and has been since 1992. Under current rules, the parliament of Moldova must approve a nomination for Head of State by a two-thirds majority following legislative elections, or upon the post becoming vacant. If an individual is not selected within 30 days the Parliament is dissolved.

  2. Petru Lucinschi (1996-2001)
  3. Vladimir Voronin (2001- present)
