Pride of Barbadoes is a thorny bush (Caesalpinia pulcherrima), Fabaceae, with yellow, orange or red flowers having delicate, curly, slitted petals and long protruding stamens. On the Royal Standard, the hanging filaments clearly represent these stamens suspended from the body proper (the petals) of the flower.
