Prize of war
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A prize of war is generally military items from a war or battle, typically at sea, that the winning side can claim after they have either defeated the enemy or after the enemy has surrendered. This term was used nearly exclusively in terms of claiming a ship at sea, during the 18th and 19th centuries. This term is nearly non existent in modern day battles, due to differences in the way battles are fought and the battleships used used.
