Pseudostratified epithelium
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Image:Gray964.png In pseudostratified epithelium, there is only a single layer of cells, but the position of the nuclei gives the impression that it is stratified. It is usually considered synonymous with "pseudostratified columnar epithelium", because it rarely occurs with squamous or cuboidal epithelium.
- Ciliated Pseudostratified columnar epithelia are found in the lines of the trachea as well as the upper respiratory tract.
- Non-Ciliated Pseudostratified columnar epithelia are located in the lining of the male urethra.
If a specimen looks stratified, but you can identify cilia, the specimen is pseudostratified ciliated epithelium since stratified epithelium cannot have cilia.
