Répétiteur
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Répétiteur (Fr.), repetitore (It.), or repetitor (Ger.), originally from the French verb répéter meaning "to repeat, to go over, to learn, to rehearse".
[edit] Opera
In opera, répétiteur is the name given to the chorus-master of an Opera House: the person responsible for coaching the singers.
In opera, the person responsible for coaching singers and playing for music and production rehearsals. This requires a specific talent for sight-reading, instant arranging of the vocal score and ability to follow a conductor. The chorus master never fills the position of repetiteur, as he/she is responsible for the training and management of the chorus.
[edit] Pianist
The word is also used to refer to the person responsible for playing the piano at rehearsals, including for choirs or other groups learning musical work.
