From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Note: Japanese names are in the Western order (given name, then family name).
[edit] Manga/Anime Characters
[edit] Azusa Shiratori
Image:AzusaShiratori.jpg Partner of Mikado Sanzenin, together they form the Golden Pair, a pair of martial arts figure skaters. Ranma and Akane end up in conflict with them when Azusa takes P-chan resulting in a martial arts figure skating match to see who gets to keep the pig, which she had named Charlotte. The resulting battle was in fact called the "Charlotte Cup."
Azusa is known for taking things she feels are cute and giving them cute French names. She can be particularly violent towards any person that attempts to stop her from having them, even her own partner.
[edit] Trivia
- She only appears the once in the manga, but in the anime reappears during the first movie for a brief cameo along with Mikado and in a regular episode, without Mikado, where she takes Kuno and Sasuke as two of her cute play things.
- In the dub, Azusa uses a similar speaking style to Shampoo, referring to herself in the third person quite often. Also, they were both voiced by the same person. However, while Shampoo has her speaking style due to lack of knowledge of the Japanese language, it is safe to assume that Azusa developed her linguistic habit as a way to sound "cute", especially considering she refers to herself as "Azusa-chan", adding the feminine, and "cute", treatment form.
[edit] Dojo Destroyer
Image:DojoDestroyer.jpg A huge man who specializes in challenging various martial arts dojos then when victorious taking their signs. His fighting style actually uses the signs he has taken as weapons in the duels. A combined effort of Ranma and Akane manages to defeat him.
[edit] Trivia
- In the manga he wore a white gi and he had yellow skin, but in the anime he was a dark skined man wearing a green gi.
[edit] Gambling King
Image:Kingmanga.jpg The Gambling King is a gambler who specializes in conning children, the only opponents he can actually defeat, out of their savings or other valuable things they might have. Ten years ago, he met Ukyo Kuonji and Ranma Saotome and managed, by cheating, to win both Ukyo’s Okonomiyaki cart and the Tendo Dojo, which Ranma wagered. Enraged by their losses, the young duo turned on the gambler, wrapped him like sushi and threw him into a nearby river.
Years later, the Gambling King tracked Ukyo and Ranma down and took possession of the Tendo Dojo and the Tendo home, which he turned into a casino. The King lived in the Tendo home until Nabiki won back the house and Ranma managed—by cheating, since he has a bad poker face—to reclaim the dojo.
[edit] Trivia
- The Gambling King bears a striking resemblance to the 'King' Poker card.
- He was a playable character in Ranma ½: Hard Battle for the SNES.
[edit] Harumaki
Harumaki is an old man who sends an astral projection of himself inside Ranma's dreams; apparently, this was only because of his strong desire of dating female Ranma, who looks very much like his wife whe she was young, and not an intentional thing. He gets his wish and is able to date Ranma just once. Since it appeared that Harumaki would die soon and a date would be the only way to help him rest in peace, the young Saotome unwillingly agreed to fullfill the old man's fantasy. In the end, Harumaki fully recovered from his illness.
[edit] Trivia
- He was seen along with every other anime character in the Ranma ½ OAV The Tendo Family Christmas Scramble.
- His first appearance in the anime was in episode 144 Run Away With Me, Ranma!.
[edit] Hiroshi and Daisuke

[edit] Trivia
- Her name in the sub is Madame Sanporu (the romaji for "Saint Paul").
[edit] Maomolin the Ghost Cat
Image:Maomolinmanga.jpg Maomolin is a giant ghost cat whom Shampoo accidentally brought to Nerima inside a giant bell she gave to Ranma as a match for the small bell she would keep. Maomolin was sealed inside the large bell and was released when Shampoo handed it over as a gift. The Ghost Cat eventually challenged Ranma to a fight for Shampoo, but was defeated by the Neko Ken, which activated itself when Ranma was overcome by his fear of felines.
Later, on New Year’s Eve, Maomolin lured Shampoo inside Nerima’s cat temple. Once she arrived, he put a curse on her: if Shampoo tried to leave the temple grounds, she would turn into a cat until she re-entered them. Also, the curse would lock her in cat form after the 108 New Year's bells had rung unless her true love kissed her. Mousse, Ranma and Akane managed to save Shampoo, even though Mousse was not thrilled at all by the way Maomolin’s curse had to be broken: the true love the Ghost Cat referred to was Ranma, not himself.
[edit] Trivia
- Maomolin is weak and can’t fight at all, but he does have a set of magical abilities that allow him to cast spells or curses on people or even possess them. He can be exorcised by physical assault.
- Maomolin appeared a few more times in the anime. In one episode, he possessed Ryoga to try and win over Akane; in another episode, he went to the beach with the rest of the cast and became obsessed with Tsubasa Kurenai after seeing him in a swimsuit contest.
[edit] Mikado Sanzenin
Image:MikadoSanzenin.jpg Figure skating partner of Azusa, Mikado is the other half of the Golden Pair. He is a classic playboy, always looking to charm women and steal a kiss from them. He says he has a goal of kissing 1,000 different women. He has even managed to kiss Ranma in his female form (it was Ranma's first ever). However, he failed to get one from Akane, his stated intention during the "Charlotte Cup" match.
Despite being partnered with Azusa, he appears to have little tolerance of her and often ends up insulting her.
[edit] Trivia
- He only appears once in the manga, but in the anime has a brief cameo in the first movie along with Azusa.
[edit] Mrs. Tendo
She is the mother of Akane, Nabiki, and Kasumi, and wife to Soun Tendo, she died an unexplained death when Akane was very young, she is a hard subject for the Tendo family to talk about especialy Soun who still mourns for her.
[edit] Niku Men
The Niku men are 4 bald midgets with pastry shaped heads, the group consists of Niku-Man, Pizza-Man, An-Man and Curry-Man, their heads are shaped like the food their names suggest. They came from China seeking the dragon whisker that Ranma wore as his pigtail tie. If the dragon whisker would be mixed in a soup before 1000 years passed then bald men who drink it would regain their hair and those who already possesed hair would have their hair continously grow until they were bald, but sadly by the time they got the dragon whisker 1000 years had already passed which left the whisker useless.
[edit] Old Washer Woman
She is frequently splashing water at the front of her house. Ranma, Ryoga and the other cursed characters are her accidental victims.
[edit] Trivia

[edit] Oni
Image:EvilOniRanma.jpg The Oni was a cartoonish, goofy looking pipsqueak that wasn't very bright. It was imprisoned in a box 5,000 years ago by a monkey priest, but the box rotted, allowing it to escape. It went around possessing Kuno, Ryoga and others to do supposedly "evil" deeds. The only way to exorcise it was to hit the possessed. Once it possesed Kasumi, nobody wanted to hit her. It was released by a sutra the Oni Temple priest had.
In tha anime, during the time it spent inside Kasumi, it absorbed the grief and anger of those around her and revealed its true form which was that of a hideous, powerful, demon whose desire was to kill everyone and destroy all of Japan. He set his eyes on Ranma as his first victim, but at that moment Happosai returned from his recent panty raid. The oni sensed his immense amount of evil energy, and it possesed him hoping to absorb his power. But Happosai's will was strong enough to resist, Ranma took this opportunity to seal them both in a new box, with some help from Ryoga, and they threw it in the ocean, hoping never to see it again. But the next day, a news broadcast from America reported two demons terrorizing the shores of California which were in fact Happosai and the Oni.
[edit] Trivia
- In the manga it is very weak and stupid, more of a nuissance than an actual threat.
[edit] Orochi

She refused to go back in to the painting unless Ranma went on a date with her for one night. Though she had fun, Ranma suffered humiliation after humiliation. When the date was almost over she asked Ranma to give her a goodbye kiss (Of course he did not realize that she only wanted a kiss on the forehead). After saying goodbye, she went back into the painting, and the artist who drew her added a Ranma scribble to keep her company.

In this unique form of combat, the participants compete to see who can finish his meal first and in the most elegant manner, with the loser having to pay for all the expensive food served during the duel.
Picolet entered the scene during a visit to Furinkan High School were he declared that one of the three Tendo daughters would be his future wife and subsequently defeating Ranma—who interrupted his toast—in Martial Arts Dining. It was later explained that Soun Tendo was in debt to the Chardin Family and that he promised to give them one of his daughters in marriage as payment.
Ranma, still angry at being defeated earlier, volunteered to pose as Picolet’s future bride in order to learn Martial Arts Dining and beat him in a rematch. Eventually, after enduring a gruesome training under Madame St. Paul—the Chardin family's head maid—Ranma managed to defeat Picolet and free the Tendo sisters from the engagement agreement.

She also holds the distinction of being the only member of the Hibiki family with any sense of direction at all. Additionally, she can recognize Ryoga as both a human and a pig.
She first appeared in the manga during a TV show as an attempt to contact her masters to show them her new puppies, hoping Ryoga or his parents would actually return home. Ryoga did see her on TV, and tried to use the situation as an opportunity to woo Akane. Later, she was seen during the time Ryoga tried to double date Akane and Akari, who were both at his house at the same time.
[edit] Trivia

[edit] Yotaro
Image:Yotaro.jpg A supposedly sickly boy who refuses to play outside unless he plays with a panda from his dreams. Naturally, Genma's panda form acts as a good substitute, who Yotaro calls Kumahachi. However, in the end it turns out he's not so sickly as he's able to chase Ranma and Genma all the way home to the Tendo dojo.
[edit] Yuka and Sayuri
Yuka and Sayuri are Akane's friends; they are in her class and are always seen in her company when they show up. They both are very supportive of Akane, trying to cheer her up every time Ranma is being chased by other girls.
Yuka and Sayuri are not as interested in gossiping as Hiroshi and Daisuke are, and they mostly just try to get Ranma and Akane together by dropping subtle hints in Ranma's direction.
[edit] Trivia
- Yuka and Sayuri are among the few characters of Ranma ½ who are not seen practicing martial arts; however, they do chase after Happosai along with the rest of the female students in Furinkan any time the perverted old man tries to steal their underwear.

A powerful living battle outfit that a monk gave to Soun Tendo, Genma, and Ranma. It is able to unleash the dormant fighting potential of the wearer. The suit chose Akane, making her stronger and faster, as well as increasing her skill to the point where she was able to defeat Ranma in battle. The suit has only one weak spot: its belt buckle. Ranma attempts to hit that point several times, but fails. Finally, he ends up in a fight with Akane wearing the suit and during this battle the suit's buckle is struck against a statue as Akane falls, destroying it.
[edit] Trivia
- The suit would only let Akane wear it. It rejected all men, and even Ranma's girl form.
- Do-Chan is male and has a perverted personality, even stealing Happosai's panty collection for itself.
[edit] Asuka Saginomiya
(Saginomiya Asuka)
Asuka Saginomiya, also known as the White Lily, is a rich, spoiled girl who has been Kodachi Kuno’s main rival since they were both little girls in Lizard Kindergarten, where they often fought—violently—to be picked by the coolest kid in class. Eventually, they decided to have a double date (actually it was a ‘duel’) in ten years where they would compare their boyfriends. The one having the most handsome date would win.
By the time of the duel, she tried to ruin Ranma’s face—whom Akane had allowed to pose as Kodachi’s date after Asuka called him ugly—by using explosives and other underhanded tricks. Eventually, it was discovered that Asuka, just like Kodachi, didn’t have a boyfriend. Instead, she presented an incredibly handsome young man whom she had kidnapped earlier. Since both rivals were dateless, their match ended in a draw and they agreed to hold their next duel in five years.
[edit] Trivia
- Asuka always carries an empty frame and a bouquet of white lilies to pose as a living portrait of herself.
[edit] The Demon Sakura Tree
The Demon Sakura Tree is an evil spirit who lives inside a cherry tree; when Kuno carved a declaration of love to the 'Pigtailed girl' on it, the spirit felt offended and possessed Tatewaki, merging with it and turning Kuno into a Cherry Tree Man. Apparently, the only way to break the curse was for Kuno to date with his true love, but since Kuno just wrote 'pigtailed girl', the tree made him chase every pigtailed girl in town. In the end, Ranma managed to break the curse by scaring the spirit into releasing Kuno.
[edit] Trivia
- As it turns out the sakura tree has been in the Kuno family estate since the feudal era, and anyone who wrote the name of the one they love on the tree would be possessed by it and forced to seek out that person.
[edit] Hayato Myojin
(Myojin Hayato) Image:Hayatomanga.jpg Hayato Myojin is a Takoyaki (octopus balls) chef who has a bitter rivalry with Ukyo Kuonji.
When he and Ukyo were ten years old, they argued about which dish was better: Okonomiyaki or Takoyaki. To settle the argument, the children fought, both promising that the loser would have to wear a stupid looking mask for the rest of his/her life. Ukyo won that fight, thanks to her flat Okonomiyaki giving her a huge advantage over the small Takoyaki Hayato used.
Six years later, he returned for a rematch, since the only way he could be free of the octopus mask he had been wearing for years was to defeat Ukyo in battle. This time, Hayato was able to win the fight by turning one of Ukyo’s giant Okonomiyaki into a massive Takoyaki that he used to squash her.
[edit] Trivia
- Hayato owns a small octopus as a pet named Patorashu.
[edit] Headmistress of Sainokawahara Dorm
She is the ghostly apparition of the deceased headmistress who used to run the old abandoned Sainokawahara women's dorm in Furinkan. When she was alive her dorm used to be the constant victim of perverted panty thiefs, all the panties and bras got stolen every night except for the headmistress's undergarments, and so she died feeling ugly, old and rejected. She hoped Happosai would steal her underwear but he refused to steal such hideous bloomers. Even after she explained to Ranma and Akane that if he didn't steal her underwear before midnight, she would be trapped in the dorm forever and Happosai would die, he was unwilling to do so because they didn't belong to somebody more shapely. Frustrated with the ancient pervert's stubbornness, Ranma shoved a pair of bloomers into Happosai's mouth which made the headmistress squeal "PANTY THIEF!" with glee, allowing her to rest in peace. Happosai, on the other hand, was disgusted.
[edit] Kiima
Image:KiimaKorumaMasara.jpg Kiima is part raven and is the general of the Phoenix Army, and she is Saffron's babysitter, she came to Nerima to find the map through Jusendo. Later, in order to recover the map and Saffron's weapon from Ranma, she creates a "Drowned Akane" spring in Jusenkyo and now has a cursed form of Akane (used to trick Ranma in an inn's bathroom.)
- Attacks: Ten-thousand Bird Wing Slice: By flapping her wings very rapidly Kiima can send out huge numbers of vaccum blades to slice almost anything.
[edit] Konatsu's parents
They were honest, kind and caring people, and they were the picture of perfect parents, sadly Konatsu's mother died when he was young which left his father lonely and devastated, blinded by his grief and missery he remarried Kotet, but afterwards he died an unexplained death as well, which left Konatsu to be raised by his evil step mother and step sisters.
[edit] Kotet, Koume and Koeda
Image:KotetKoumeKoeda.jpg They are Konatsu's hideous, big lipped step family and they were in charge of the Sexy Kunoichi Tea Shop before Happosai destroyed it. Kotet is Konatsu's diminutive step mother, she has a Hitler moustache and is always smoking a cuban cigar. Koeda is Konatsu's skinny, flat chested sister, she always has a flower lotus in her hair and she has a soup bowl hair cut. Koume is Konatsu's bald, overweight, noseless sister, she always wears sunglasses and wears two flowers on her head, like her mother and sister her lips are huge but unlike the other two her mouth is also gigantic with enough room to fit both Ukyo and Akane.
[edit] Lukkosai
(Rakkyosai)
Lukkosai is Happosai's childhood friend, and as such they are both extremely perverted and their personalities are identical. They are also masters of martial arts except Lukkosai specializes in martial arts painting. When they were teenagers in China, they stole beautiful breast prints from each other, which in turn caused their friendship to crumble, during this time Happosai steals Lukkosai's Brocide Butterfly (a tablet of Rainbow colored ink) and they never spoke again. 100 years later Lukkosai went to Jusenkyo to find a spring that could make him a teenager again, but he instead became a 9 year old boy. He used his appearance to become Happosai's student, retrieve the butterfly, and get his revenge, but Ranma continued getting in his way. When his true form was revealed he quickly defeated Ranma and went after Happosai. Their friendship was restored after reminicing about their youth leading them to work together to get prints of girl Ranma's breasts, but they restarted their vicious feud shortly thereafter.

[edit] Mint and Lime
Image:Mintmanga.jpg Image:LimeRanma.jpg
Mint and Lime are Herb's bodyguards. Mint is the physically fastest of the three while Lime is the physically the strongest. Like Mousse, Mint is an expert at hidden weapons. He also possesses incredible speed which is doubled by his wolf inheritance. He even managed to nearly slice Mousse to death, but not before being defeated by Mousse's skillful tricks and unpredictable weaponry. Lime, like Ryoga, possesses astounding endurance and monstrous strength which is doubled by his tiger heritage. He even managed to nearly choke Ryoga to death, but not before being defeated by his Shi Shi Hokodan blast.
Since they were raised within a society of male martial artists, with the only female figures being their mothers (A Jusenkyo-Cursed Wolf and a Jusenkyo-Cursed Tiger), Mint and Lime have never actually met a true woman. Because of this, they can be very girl-obsessed and will be stricken with happiness just by the sound or touch of a woman. Mint isn't very experienced with women and can be very shy around them. He still seems to be familiar with Amazon law though, which he used to challenge Shampoo for a date. Even then he was very reluctant to hit her. Despite his lack of experience with women, Lime does not possess as much timidity. For instance, he actively pursues his desire to touch Akane Tendo's buttocks and possesses an over-obsession with breasts. Both of them also enjoy drooling over Herb's breasts and spying on her while she bathes. Due to their animalistic nature, they do not have qualms about killing in order to win.
[edit] Trivia
- Mint's signature attack is his Wolf Fang Meteor Bullets. Using his high speed, Mint "warps" behind his opponent and rapidly hurls dozens of ribboned daggers at them. It can also be used to pin them to objects.
- Mint resembles InuYasha from Rumiko Takahashi's other anime Inuyasha.
- The actual pun in Mint and Lime's names is that all of the Chinese characters are named after beauty products, musk fragrances or lingerie.
- Mint and Lime are the fastest and strongest characters in the series respectively, thanks to their animal heritage.
- Lime is the only person able to take out Ryoga in one or two hits, a feat not even Taro's monstrous form can pull off.
[edit] Occhan
Occhan is one of Ukyo's friends that runs the Heracles okonomiyaki restaurant. He had obtained the legendary cursed spatula, it is said that only a true okonomiyaki chef master can wield it he however failed and suffered the curses wrath, afterwards he had called Ukyo for help, she and Ranma came to his restaraunt to find the spatula and once they did they tried to make okonomiyaki with it, but do to the curse the spatula had a mind of its own and it shot out blasts of immense heat every time someone tried to use it to make Okonomiyaki.
[edit] Trivia
- Occhan's head is also shaped like a spatula (which has nothing to do with the curse, but is strange nonetheless).
[edit] Pink and Link
(Pin Ke and Lin Ke) Image:PinkLink.jpg
Pink and Link are twin sisters. They live in a village near to Joketzusoku called Yaokaicun, which is famous for its herbalists. Pink and Link usually say 'please' (others think they say 'Over' as in radio talk) at the end of their sentences and act quite opposite to each other, Pink being rude and Link being nice. However, when it comes to taking revenge on someone, they both act as one.
When they were little girls, they had an unfortunate meeting with Shampoo (who was a little girl as well and was visiting Yaokaicun at the time). Pink poisoned her and Link came by and cured her. After waking up, Shampoo thought Link was Pink and hit her. Later on, when Shampoo learned of her mistake, she ended up hitting the herbalist twins about a hundred times each. Years later, the Amazon newspaper prints as story saying Shampoo will marry Ranma. After reading that, the twins go to Japan and Pink poisons Ranma and Link cures him, but Ranma, mistaking Link for her sister just as Shampoo did, beats her up. When the two reveal themselves, they start their plot to kill Ranma and Shampoo.
Eventually, the twins capture Shampoo and take her to their poison plant forest. However, Shampoo was only pretending to be caught, since she wanted to use the twins' plan as an opportunity to have Ranma save her. The plan backfired and both Ranma and Shampoo ended up as the twins' prisoners. Akane then has to go rescue them with some magical items she gets from Cologne. In the end, Ranma saves the day using the fire rod (that Cologne gave to Akane) to burn down the forest the herbalist twins created around Furinkan High School.
[edit] Rouge
Rouge is a 16 year old Hindu girl from China who holds a grudge against Pantyhose Taro. This is because one night while he was exercising, he heard some strange noises nearby and when he checked to see what it was, it turned out to be a beautiful girl bathing in a hot spring. As he stared at her, she quickly became aware of his presence, and began throwing what ever she could find at his head, including items she called her sources of power which somehow ended up inside Taro's barbells. Taro managed to escape with his barbells, but after Rouge realized her sources of power were gone, she quickly went after him and changed into her Ashura cursed form. The two subsequently battled in their respective cursed forms. After Taro was defeated, Rouge became a huge fireball and shot themselves all the way to Nerima. After arriving in Nerima Rouge was knocked into a fountain by Taro and fell unconscious. Akane and Ranma soon find Rouge and take her back to the Tendo home. After she awakens, she requests Ranma's assistance in getting back the source of her powers, which she believes was stolen by Pantyhose Taro. After much carnage and destruction, Rouge discovers that the power source she uses are fairly common and buys quite a few of them before heading back to China. Taro believed he could use the source of power to take over the world. Instead, he ended up looking foolish when he learned that Rouge's sources of power were simply small magnetic disks used to prevent stiffening in one's back, a serious problem for her since her cursed form has six arms.
[edit] Trivia
- Rouge was never in the anime but she was in the game Ranma ½ Battle Renaissance were she was voiced by Kumiko Nishihara.
- An Ashura is a Hindu demon/god that is said to be extremely powerful. These three-faced, six-armed creatures are described to be very aggressive.

Akane, Nabiki and Ranma all pretend to be Dr Tofu's bride to be in order to get her off his back (Nabiki talks him into hiring her for this purpose). However, when Kasumi arrives Kin recognises his "spaced out" reaction to her as being identical to that of her deceased husband's behaviour while he was trying to court her. But before he departed he promised them that they would inherit the Tendo Dojo when they got older and even left them a note saying so. Sadly they don't remember what Happosai looks like. Many years later they came to Nerima seeking Soun Tendo, but Kurumi continuously ate the food of all the town's residents on their way. He even captures Ranma, Akane, Ukyo, Shampoo, Nabiki and Kasumi. Once there they compete to be his bride in strange contests. He has a number of human-animal hybrids that act as his lieutenants. After choosing Akane (she hit him and repremends him about his tratment of the girls) leading Ranma into a fight against him. Afterwards, Ranma and Akane are falling towards the spring, leading Ranma to choose Akane over his cure by destroying the spring with his Moko Takabisha.

When the others go to find out who she is, she asks to speak with Ranma, but Genma refuses to allow her to do so, leaving with her before the others can get a good look at her. Happosai then tells the tale of a woman Genma met during their training together who bore his son, namely Ranma. However, Sakura's parents apposed the match and they were seperated, Genma taking Ranma with him. The conclusion they draw from this is that she had returned to take her son.
However, this whole tale turns out to be just a piece of fiction. This woman actually works for a traveling circus and when she saw Ranma transform she wanted Ranma as an attraction in that circus. Genma was simply trying to substitute for Ranma in the circus.

Since Ranma can't bring himself to hit Akane, he ends up losing, but Koharu shows up and gets him to leave.
[edit] Trivia
- Sankichi mistakes any girl he sees for his wife regardless of what they look like, including Akane, Nabiki and Kasumi.
- Though Genma was forced to cheat to defeat him, Sankichi is hinted to actually be a rather bad player- one of the earliest scenes in the episode in which he appears involves him loosing to a teenage member of a shogi club. When Toma lets his men loose on the captured women, he takes Ukyo and tries to woo her until Ryoga busts in. Ukyo tricks Ryoga into fighting Sarutoru, only to suicidally supercharge the lost boy's Shishi Hokodan move, which easily beats him.
