Recorder may refer to one of the following.

  • Recorder, a flute-like woodwind musical instrument. In German it is called the Blockflöte, in French the flûte à bec, and in Italian the flauto dolce.
  • Any device for recording sound, visual, or other information; see tape recorder, video cassette recorder, flight data recorder ("black box"), camcorder, professional video camera, or chart recorder.
  • Recorder, a part-time municipal judge.
  • Recorder: a government official in charge of a local recording office where real property and other official records and vital human events records (birth, death, marriage, etc.) are kept: e.g., U.S. county recorders.
  • Mining recorder: a government official in charge of a mining recorder's office (essentially, a governmental registry office for the public registration of mining claims/interests and of leases and security interests therein): Canadian provinces and territories.
  • Court recorder (or court reporter): official who records court and other judicial proceedings.
