Regeneration may refer to:

  • Regeneration (biology), the ability to recreate lost or damaged tissues, organs and limbs
  • Regenerative brake, an apparatus or system which allows a vehicle to recapture and store part of the kinetic energy that would otherwise be 'lost' to heat when braking
  • Regeneration in plant ecology refers to young plants replacing old, especially to young trees in forests
  • Regeneration (Christian doctrine), in Christian theology, the process by which men are given new hearts; that is, the process by which they are "born again", experiencing a "new birth"
  • Regenerative circuit or self-regenerative circuit, in electronics, a circuit that allows a signal to be amplified many times
  • In telecommunication, the term regeneration has the following meanings:
    • In a regenerative repeater, the process by which digital signals are amplified, reshaped, retimed, and retransmitted. A synonym for this meaning is "positive feedback"
    • In a storage or display device, the restoration of stored or displayed data that have deteriorated. For example, conventional cathode ray tube displays must be continually regenerated for the data to remain displayed
    • In computer graphics, the sequence of events needed to generate a display image from its representation in storage
  • In inner-city development, urban regeneration or renewal is the improving of a poor or run-down area by a programme of investment in areas such as infrastructure or housing
  • In science fiction, regeneration is associated with:
    • Regeneration (Doctor Who), in the Doctor Who series, where Time Lords are able to change their form in the event of serious injury or extreme old age
    • the Star Trek series, where species like the Changelings and the Borg regularly need to enter a process of regeneration in order to be able to function
    • Regeneration (Enterprise episode), an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise which focused on this aspect of the Borg
    • Logan's Run: in order to maintain a constant population, people reaching a certain age were sent to a "regeneration" or "renewal" ceremony, that was actually euthanasia. (This concept was not originally in the novel.)
  • In Stirling engines, regeneration is the cycling of heat between the working gas and the regenerator, typically a mass of metal fiber
  • To restore a material such as a desiccant or molecular sieve to functional condition
