Regions of Hungary

The seven statistical regions of Hungary were created in 1999 with the Law 1999/XCII which is the amendment of modification Law 1996/XXI. The regional division is expected to replace the former administrational divisions, the 19 counties.

- Northern Hungary includes the counties Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Heves and Nógrád and the urban counties Miskolc, Eger and Salgótarján.
- Northern Great Plain includes the counties Hajdú-Bihar, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and the urban counties Debrecen, Szolnok and Nyíregyháza.
- Southern Great Plain includes the counties Bács-Kiskun, Békés and Csongrád and the urban counties Kecskemét, Békéscsaba, Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely.
- Central Hungary includes the county of Pest, the capital Budapest, and the urban county of Érd.
- Central Transdanubia includes the counties Komárom-Esztergom, Fejér and Veszprém and the urban counties Tatabánya, Székesfehérvár, Dunaújváros and Veszprém.
- Western Transdanubia includes the counties Győr-Moson-Sopron, Vas and Zala, and the urban counties Győr, Sopron, Szombathely, Zalaegerszeg and Nagykanizsa.
- Southern Transdanubia includes the counties Baranya, Somogy and Tolna and the urban counties Pécs, Kaposvár and Szekszárd.

Hungary belongs into the following euroregions:
- Carpathian Euroregion: Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Hajdú-Bihar, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Heves
- West Pannonia Euroregion: Győr-Moson-Sopron, Vas, Zala
- Danube-Drava-Sava: Baranya
- Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisa (DKMT): Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok
- Ister-Granum Euroregion: Komárom-Esztergom, Nógrád
(Counties sometimes only roughly correspond to euroregions, so overlap is possible.)
