In biology:
- Self-replication, when a molecule (or any other pattern) makes a copy of itself
- DNA replication, the act of copying the genetic material of a cell (DNA) to a daughter cell

- In finance option replication is the trading strategy used to ensure at a certain date the payoff of an option without trading this option.
- Replication (computer science), the use of redundant resources to improve reliability, fault-tolerance, or performance.
- In statistics, replication is repeating the creation of a phenomenon, so that the variability associated with the phenomenon can be estimated. Replications and repeated measurements are dealt with differently in statistical experimental design and analysis. Replications should not be confused with repeated measurements which refer to literally taking several measurements of a single occurrence of a phenomenon.

- In metallography, is the use of thin plastic films to nondestructively duplicate the microstructure of a component. The film is then examined at high magnifications.
- In manufacturing of CDs and DVDs, replication refers to the production of discs via (i) the creation of a glass master from a client original master (ii) the creation of a nickel stamper from that glass master (iii) the injection molding of clear optical-grade polycarbonate substrates (clear discs) from that stamper (iii) the metallising and lacquering of those substrates to produce compact discs and DVDs.
