Resident Evil: Extinction (a.k.a. Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil: Afterlife ) is the 2007 sequel to Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Resident Evil: Extinction is the third installment in a tetralogy based on the popular Capcom survival horror game series Resident Evil. The film is directed by Russell Mulcahy and produced by Paul Anderson. The film stars Milla Jovovich, Mike Epps, Sienna Guillory, Ashanti Douglas, Ali Larter, Chris Egan, and Oded Fehr. Milla Jovovich returns as Alice, and she's running with a new pack of humans, with Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) leading a convoy (a school bus and a modified ambulance) that's cutting through the wastelands of the United States on a long trek to Alaska. Resident Evil: Extinction is set in between 3 - 5 years after the events of Apocalypse, the Umbrella Corporation has failed to control a series of T-Virus outbreaks and the U.S. has been almost wiped out. With very little humanity left, a handful of survivors are traveling around the remnants of the world in heavily armored convoys that go to the least populated parts of the world.

Resident Evil: Extinction was officially announced by Sony Screen Gems on June 13, 2005 months after Apocalypse's release in North America. Screen Gems also released information with discussed ideas of creating another sequel titled Resident Evil 4.

In late November 2005, Davis Film, Constantin Film and Screen Gems announced they will be the films distributor worldwide. Principal photography began in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico on May 15, 2006 (after being pushed back from November 05 > March 06 > April 06 > May 06). Despite the rumors that Paul Anderson was planning of returning to direct the third installment, he passed the job to Russell Mulcahy and remained as the film's producer and screenplay writer. The film's budget is estimated to be $45,000,000 and the special effects will by covered by Tatopoulos Studios.

  • According to Movies Online, the film will borrow plot elements from Code Veronica.
  • Mulcahy stated that several new creatures will appear. Only the Crows have been confirmed. The Nosferatu is rumored to appear in the movie
  • Paul Anderson stated a character from the earlier games will appear. During an episode of Game Head it was confirmed that Albert Wesker will be making an appearance, played by Jason O'Mara (Click here for the image).
