Robert Hope-Jones

Robert Hope-Jones (9 February 1859 in Hooton Grange, Cheshire – 13 September 1914 in Rochester, New York, USA) is considered to be the inventor of the theatre organ. He had an idea that a pipe organ should be able to imitate the instruments of an orchestra, and that the console should be detachable from the organ. Among his innovations were the invention of the diaphone, the tibia clausa, and the electro-pneumatic action. He advocated that pipes should speak on higher wind pressures to more adequately imitate orchestral instruments.
