SS Constitution
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The SS Constitution was an ocean liner owned by American Export Lines. It was commissioned in 1951. It sailed on the New York-Genoa-Naples and Gibraltar route to Europe. It was a sister ship to the SS Independence (which is still in existence although it is laid up with no plans to return it to service). The Constitution was decommissioned in 1995 and sank on its way to be scrapped in 1997. It had nothing to do with the more well known USS Constitution.
- The Constitution carried Grace Kelly and her wedding party to Monaco for her wedding to Prince Rainier.
- The ship was featured in several episodes of I Love Lucy.
- She was also the setting of An Affair to Remember starring Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant.
