[edit] Mining and Processing
Salajeet is mined in mountainous regions such as in the Himalayas. It actually comes out from the mountains themselves. In the summer time, it kind of becomes soft and putty like, so it is difficult to mine. If one were to shoot up at it , the bullet would just go into it. Thus, it is mined almost exclusively in the winter. Again, guns are used and it is shot at. Since it is frozen, it shatters and the dark brown/black fragments fall in the snow and can easily be collected.
Once it is "mined" it has to be processed (because in its raw form it is not safe to consume). This "process" mainly consists of melting and then boiling these fragments. It is boiled for a very long period of time (the exact time of which I do not know) until it is fit for human consumption. It is cooled once again (at which point it re-solidifies) and then is broken into tiny crystal pieces.
[edit] Consumption
Salajeet is to be taken before sleeping. A tiny piece approximately 2 mm in diameter is all that should be consumed. It should be followed by a cold glass of milk. Most people say that they feel so warm the next morning that they want to jump into a tub of ice.
[edit] Reasons for Consumption
Salajeet can only be consumed for certain reasons. It is highly discouraged to consume it on a regular basis or for no reason.
- Salajeet induces warmth in the body. Some people are hot blooded while others are cool blooded. Hot blooded people are associated with being healthier, stronger etc. while cool blooded people are "less" of those things. It is used in the snowy mountains to stay warm.
- Another one of the most common reasons is bone fractures. Salajeet has incredible properties related to the speeding up of the healing of broken bones. In the mountains where it is severely cold, a broken bone can take a long time to heal but there have been cases in which Salajeet has healed injured people much faster than people who did not use it. This is partly due to the garmi inducing nature of it, as well as it's other "mysterious" properties.
- In certain places Salajeet is used as a substitute for Viagra. It's properties on "hormonal activity" in men have been known for a long time in vilages etc. but it has sadly never been researched properly. The Chinese have also used Salajeet for it's virility increasing properties for generations.
- Wrestlers (pehlwan) use Salajeet to strengthen their bones. This is the only case in which the regular use of it is allowed. The reason being that perspiration releases the extra warmth and it does not harm the body. The myth that Salajeet can make your bones "as strong as iron" is apparently believed by many a pehlwan.
The heat that is induced by Salajeet can be harmful. That is why the regular use of it is discouraged almost always. This garmi can harm the liver, it can cause acne, stomach problems, and lathargy.
[edit] Interesting Information
Most people believe that Salajeet was discovered by the Langur monkeys that inhabit these northern and mountainous areas. The Langur's eat the Salajeet raw. The miraculous thing about them is that they can jump from one mountain to another. The distance and force required to do so would shatter their bones, but incredibly nothing happens. Most people say that this astonishing feat is attributed to Salajeet and it's affects on bone development.
