The San Francisco Spiders were a franchise in the former International Hockey League. They competed for one season, folding at the close of the 1996 season. They were probably best known for the outrageous spider costume worn by their mascot. Poor attendance and difficulties with the arena caused the team to suspend operations. The team was scheduled to move to Victoria, BC in 2000, but this move never surfaced. Most of the players were traded away to other IHL teams for "future considerations." The Kansas City Blades received eight players from the Spiders. The team came in last place on their there first and only season. their record was 40-32 in the IHL South. The team went down the drain

The Spiders played their home games in the neighboring town of Daly City, CA at the Cow Palace -- The same arena where the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League played during their first two seasons.
