Santa suit

This is what professional Santa Clauses call their clothing. Many people erroneously call the outfit a "Santa Costume". Those that are realistic Santa Clauses, like to think that they really are playing Santa Claus. They refer to the red outfit as their "Suit".
When a performer dons his suit, he is instantly transformed from the large older man that he is the rest of the year into Santa Claus, the person beloved by all. It is amazing what a simple outfit can do to one’s personality.
There are regional differences in the type of Suit that Santa Claus wears. In some European countries, he wears a long red robe with a hood. Typically in the USA, he wears a fleece or Velvet Jacket and pants with a belt, matching hat, and fur trimmed boots.
Satan suits are worn by people who want to realistically portray Santa Claus, and also by those who are having some holiday fun. There is a trend toward bar crawls with the participants wearing Santa Suits (typically cheap ones) Some of these groups go by the name Santarchy. Sometimes there is no intention to trick anyone that the wearer is Santa Claus, instead the wearer is a partygoer or a salesrep for a company who is bringing gifts or cheering up people during the holidays.
The performers who wear these Suits can obtain them by buying them from a costume shop, or often if they are good quality Suits, they get passed down from their parents. Top quality suits look realistic and last for tens of thousands of wearings. Since Santa Claus only wears his suit for one night (actually most Professional Santas wear their suit continuously for the 6 weeks preceding Christmas), they will last almost forever!
Most Santa Claus will add a top quality wig and beard set, or will grow their own.
Not everybody who puts on a Santa Suit is taking Christmas or The "person" Santa Claus seriously. While some people may be offended by people wearing Santa Suits and not acting in a "Santa" like manner, this kind of behavior is actually quite common. There is a phenomenon across the USA where people put on Santa Suits and go on a Bar crawl.
