An operating system used by the Civil Air Patrol to take pictures of a target from an aircraft, and send the images via satellite phone to the mission base or waiting customer.

The system consists of any aircraft with a satellite phone installed. The SDIS operator connects a laptop computer to the phone, and a digital camera to the computer. The operator will then take a picture of the target, upload it to the computer and email it via satellite to the customer.

The Satellite Digital Imaging System (SDIS) was demonstrated successfully in the search and recovery efforts following hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
