Satyrinae is one of 12 subfamilies of the classification of Nymphalidae (butterflies). The subfamily is comprised of approximately 1746 species placed in 243 genera and 6 tribes, according to the latest studies on the Classification of Nymphalidae. It is estimated that the true number of described species in Satyrinae may exceed 2000. The taxonomy of the subfamily is under heavy revision. Much of the early pioneering work of Dr L. D. Miller in 1968 has helped significantly by creating some sort of order.
