Scotchlite
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scotchlite™ is a material made by the 3M company that is made of millions of glass beads affixed to the surface. Each glass bead is covered with a metallic reflective layer on half of it's surface (the "back" half) and this, combined with the spherical nature of the glass beads gives the materials their reflective properties.
Scotchlite reflects light back only in the direction it came and at many times the magnitude. It is used for cinema screens, on reflective clothing and in the front projection special effects process. Scotchlite is also used on the front of many traffic signs.
[edit] Trivia
In the film Superman: The Movie the costumes of the people of Krypton were made from Scotchlite.
