Second Person (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Second Person is a British band that mixes influences from trip hop, jazz, hip hop and electronica to form Post Trip Hop.
In late 2001, singer Julia Johnson and producer/bassist Mark Maclaine met, and early the following year formed the band Second Person. Recruiting drummer Ed Webber and DJ Digi Budha to form the line up of the band for the start of recording for their debut album. Before the album was complete, both of these new members left and new drummer, Alvaro Lopez, was recruited to complete the current line up (mid-2004). The band started recording the album from scratch and Chromatography was released later that year. It went on to sell out of its initial white-label run in United Kingdom, USA and Australia through word of mouth and publicity generated by the band's work on extreme sports films and documentaries. The band went on to record a live DVD at the The Bedford in London and score music for a number of British broadcasters (including BBC and Channel 4) and one of the main suppliers of music for the international broadcaster: The Extreme Sports Channel.
It was a year before the band returned to the studio to start writing and recording of their second album. In this time, the band continued their work on film and television scores and Mark Maclaine went, for a short period of time, to work as an assistant producer for Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol, Vaux and Bloc Party) to improve his production skills. The album (under the working title Come to Dust) is in post-production and is being mixed by legendary producer/engineer Tony Platt (Bob Marley, Iron Maiden and also engineered the second biggest selling album of all time: AC/DC's Back in Black). Video directors for this album include: Ebba Erikzon (Radiohead's "2+2=5" video), Mina Song (Gnarls Barkley: "Crazy"), Everton Sebben, Katie Davis and Ben King.
