[edit] History

The '2B' is an annual competition, its first season being 1977-78, at which time it only had two groups. The second two groups arrived ten years later, for the 1987-88 season, and the league continues to contain these four groups, labelled as the letters A,B,C and D. It is divided in four regional groups.

[edit] Competition System

Each group contains 20 teams, who play each other on a home and away basis. All games are played over 90 minutes, with the regular system of 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw.

[edit] Promotion

The top four teams in each group (i.e. sixteen teams in total) enter a system of playoffs to determine which four teams will replace the four teams relegated from the Segunda División. The major exception to this rule is if a B team wins promotion and its affiliated A team is already in the 2nd Division. This rule also applies of promotion from the 2nd Division.

[edit] Relegation

The bottom four teams in each league are relegated. An exception to this is if a B team is already in the '2B', and its affiliated A team is relegated from the 2nd Division. In this case, the B team is relegated, due to a rule which exists so as to avoid having two teams which are owned by the same company (i.e. an A team and a B team). This rule also applies to relegation from the 2nd division.

The teams in 16th position plays two's of permanence.
