Settler (disambiguation)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Settlers are people who have migrated from the land of their birth to live permanently in colonies controlled militarily by their home country.
Settler or settlers may also mean
- Settler (culture), in contrast with nomads, people who take up residence on land and cultivate it
- Settlers of Catan, a German board game commonly referred to as "Settlers"
- The Settlers, a computer game series.
- Today, citizens who migrate to settlements in a territory militarily controlled by their home country are also commonly referred to as illegal migrants or illegal settlers under international law (most prominently Israelis in the West Bank, Moroccans in Western Sahara, Anatolian Turks in NorthernCyprus) and Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh. By contrast, participants of similar migrations (such as Indonesia'ss Transmigration Program) have also been known as settlers, even though such migrations are within recognized state borders and thus technically are not contrary to international law.
