Severomorsk

Severomorsk (Russian: Северомо́рск) is a closed town in Murmansk Oblast, Russia, located about 25 km north of Murmansk. This is the main administrative base of the Russian Northern Fleet. Severomorsk has the largest dry dock in the Kola Peninsula.

It was founded in the second half of the 19th century as Vayenga settlement. The settlement was renamed Severomorsk when it was granted town status in 1951.

Together with its subordinated urban-type settlements of Roslyakovo and Safonovo, it has an urban population of 75,337 people (2002 Census). The population of the town proper was 55,102.
