Shear rate
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shear rate is a measure of the rate of shear deformation.
<math> \dot \gamma_{xy}=\frac {\partial v_x} {\partial y} + \frac{\partial v_y} {\partial x} </math>
For simple shear case it is just a gradient of velocity
For a Newtonian fluid wall Shear stress (<math>\tau_{w}</math>) can be related to shear rate by <math>\tau_{w} = {\dot \gamma_{x} \mu}</math>, where <math>\mu</math> is the Viscosity of the fluid.
