Shirts Versus Skins
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shirts versus Skins is a basketball term describing a common form of informal pickup game. Because players in unorganized games do not wear uniforms, it can often be difficult to distinguish one's teammates from the opposing team. In a "shirts versus skins" game, players on one team take off their shirts, thus making the identification of teammates easier. For a variety of reasons, this is rarely done when women are playing.
This method was once frequently used in school physical education programs, especially in all-male classes. However, it is becoming less and less common due to the low cost of colored vests as well as out of respect for student modesty.
