Silver mullet

Silver mullet include the species, fantail mullet (Mugil gyrans), white mullet (Mugil curema), and redeye mullet (Mugil gaimardianus). Silver mullet are commercially used for bait. In some parts of Florida and southern Alabama, silver mullet are occasionally eaten in the place of Striped Mullet. Mullet feed off of the bottom and consume algae, plankton, and plant and animal detritus. They are an important part of the ecology in estuarial and coastal waters.
