Henry George Lyons

Colonel Sir Henry George Lyons FRS (1864-1944) was a geologist and director of the Science Museum in London. Lyons was a graduate of Wellington College and at the age of eighteen was elected to the Geological Society. From 1822-24 he proceeded as lieutenant from the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich.

In 1896 he married a daughter of the prestigious London architect Philip Charles Hardwick (1822-1892)

In 1920, with the retiring rank of colonel, Sir Henry Lyons became director of the Science Museum. He introduced working models, exhibited new devlopments such as the aeroplane, cinema, radio, and gramophone. He also contributed the children's gallery.
