Solnechnogorsk

Solnechnogorsk (Russian: Солнечного́рск) is a town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, the administrative center of Solnechnogorsky District. It is situated on the Moscow-Saint Petersburg Highway and the Moscow-Saint Petersburg Railway, on the coast of Lake Senezh, 65 km north-west from Moscow. Population—58,374 (2002 Census). Originally, there were a village named Solnechnaya Gora (literally Sunny Hill). It received town status and was renamed Solnechnogorsk in 1938.
Some of the main features of the town are a metal construction factory, a glass-works, a sports fishing business, holiday homes, sports centers, children's summer camps, and ski lodges.
There is a museum of local lore in the town. Not far from Solnechnogorsk the estate of Shakhmatovo is situated. This estate belonged to the Russian poet Alexander Blok; now a museum for this poet has been opened there.
