Souk Ahras (Arabic: ولاية سوق أهراس ) is a wilaya of Algeria. Souk Ahras is also the name of the capital. It stands on the border between Algeria and Tunisia. In the nineteenth century it was a French colonial settlement. In the twentieth century mining and the railway brought some signicance and prosperity to the town. In Roman times it was known as Tagaste, and is the birth place of Saint Augustine of Hippo. Localities in this province include Sedrata and Khemissa.
