Steve Madden (born 1958 in Lawrence, Nassau County, New York) is the founder and former CEO of Steve Madden Ltd., a footwear company.

His designs predominantly cater to young, trendy women. The company has flourished despite some criticism that much of his women's footwear is uncomfortable in design and flimsy in build quality.

[edit] Legal Issues

In 2002, Madden was convicted of stock manipulation and securities fraud. He was sentenced to 41 months in prison, and was made to resign as CEO from Steve Madden Ltd and from the board of directors.

[edit] Incidental

  • A commentary in Canada's prestigious Marketing Magazine commented on the level of customer service a Steve Madden shoe store displayed, in replacing a defective shoe. The manager of the store personally went across town to get a proper replacement, delivering them to the customer at his hotel, before he left from his business trip.
