Strabo (disambiguation)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Strabo ('squinter') was a term given by the Romans to anyone whose eyes were distorted or crooked.
The most famous figure bearing this name is the Greek geographer Strabo. The fathers of Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great were called 'Gaius Julius Caesar Strabo' and 'Pompeius Strabo', respectively. One native of Sicily, so clear sighted that he could see things at great distance as if they were nearby, was also called 'Strabo'. Other people named Strabo were Gaius Julius Caesar Strabo Vopiscus (of the Julii Caesares), Walahfrid Strabo and Theodoric Strabo.
