Stubby cooler
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Stubby cooler is an insulating sheath which is put on the outside of a stubby beer bottle or aluminium can in order to keep the beverage cool and prevent condensation forming. For this reason, they are mainly used in locations with hot and humid weather conditions.
Stubby coolers come in various sizes, shapes and colours. Stubby coolers were once almost exclusively made of polystyrene, with or without a plastic shell, but in recent times are most commonly made of neoprene. Stubby coolers can be made from leather, cloth, metal or plastic with or without a inner liner.
Stubby coolers are often seen as a type of Australiana, and they are generally quite cheap and are often seen imprinted with logos, slogans and Australian or masculine symbols. Stubby coolers are also a common promotional item. They have been available for a number of decades.
The use of Stubby coolers is not restricted to Australia and they are seen in south-east Asia and eastern Europe with increasing regularity. They are also used in parts of the United States of America, particulary the southern states, where they are known as a Koozie or Coozie.
