Sucker

- A fish of the family Catostomidae.
- A basal shoot of a tree or other plant that competes with the main stem, or a shoot from a lower limb which competes with that limb, such as certain branches of the tomato plant.
- The organ by which some organisms, such as the leech, lamprey, and remora, attach to other organisms.
- A slang term for a gullible person. First use in this context in 1836, etymologists believe its origin has nothing to do with oral sex, rather with either
- Most likely the naïveté of "suckers" or unweaned baby animals (who "suck" from their mothers' teats)
- The ease with which suckers are caught in their annual migrations (shine a flashlight on them at night and hook them).
- A plastic device that grips onto smooth surfaces using a vacuum
