Sustainable urban drainage systems
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) are designed to reduce the potential of flooding on new and existing urban developments. Unlike traditional urban stormwater drainage systems, they also help to protect and enhance ground water quality. Originally the term SUDS describe the UK approach to sustainable urban drainage systems. Other countries have similar approaches in place using a different terminology such as "Best Management Practice" (BMP) in the United States. SUDS use the following techniques
- source control
- permeable paving
- storm water detention
- storm water infiltration
- evapo-transpiration (eg from a Green roof)
