The Tacoma Narrows, a strait, is part of Puget Sound. It is created by the close approach of the Kitsap Peninsula to the Washington state mainland. It is spanned by the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (Washington State Route 16) that connects the city of Tacoma. Some of the largest octopi in the world, the North Pacific Giant Octopus, make their homes near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
