[edit] MycoMorphBox properties

MycoMorphBoxes depict 7 mycological characteristics that are often useful in identify mushrooms. The template is given as a quick way to display information about mushrooms, and to enable quick comparison between them. As always, use discretion when consuming wild mushrooms. Read mushroom hunting and mushroom poisoning, and rely on the advice of an expert if you are new.

If you would like to add or edit MycoMorphBoxes, here are some guidelines that may help:

MycoMorphBoxes have 8 basic parameters:

  1. name = the name of the mushroom being annotated
  2. hymeniumType = the type of spore-bearing surface: gills, pores, etc. For now, this must be chosen from: Image:Gills icon.png=gills, Image:Pores icon.png=pores, Image:Smooth icon.png=smooth, Image:Ridges icon.png=ridges, Image:Teeth icon.png=teeth
  3. capShape = a descriptor of the general shape of the cap. For now, this must be chosen from: Image:Campanulate cap icon.svg=campanulate, Image:Conical cap icon.svg=conical, Image:Convex cap icon.svg=convex, Image:Depressed cap icon.svg=depressed, Image:Flat cap icon.svg=flat, Image:Infundibuliform cap icon.svg=infundibuliform, Image:Offset cap icon.png=offset, Image:Ovate cap icon.svg=ovate, Image:Umbillicate cap icon.svg=umbillicate, Image:Umbonate cap icon.svg=umbonate, Image:No cap icon.svg=no, Image:NA cap icon.svg=NA
  4. whichGills = a descriptor of how the hymenium attaches to the stem. For now, this must be chosen from: Image:Adnate gills icon2.png=adnate, Image:Adnexed gills icon2.png=adnexed, Image:Decurrent gills icon2.png=decurrent, Image:Emarginate gills icon2.png=emarginate, Image:Free gills icon2.png=free, Image:Seceding gills icon2.png=seceding, Image:Sinuate gills icon2.png=sinuate, Image:Subdecurrent gills icon2.png=subdecurrent, Image:No gills icon.png=no, Image:NA gills icon.png=NA
  5. stipeCharacter = indicates if a universal or partial veil is present. For now, this must be chosen from: Image:Bare stipe icon.png=bare, Image:Ring stipe icon.png=ring, Image:Volva stipe icon.png=volva, Image:Ring and volva stipe icon.png=ring and volva, Image:Cortina stipe icon.png=cortina, Image:NA stipe icon.png=NA
  6. sporePrintColor = the color of the spore print. For now, this must be chosen from: Image:Black spore print icon.pngblack, Image:Brown spore print icon.pngbrown, Image:Buff spore print icon.pngbuff, Image:Cream spore print icon.pngcream, Image:Olive spore print icon.pngolive, Image:Pink spore print icon.pngpink, Image:Purple spore print icon.pngpurple, Image:Salmon spore print icon.pngsalmon, Image:Tan spore print icon.pngtan, Image:White spore print icon.pngwhite, Image:Yellow spore print icon.pngyellow
  7. ecologicalType = indicates how the mushroom obtains nutrients. For now, this must be chosen from: Image:Mycorrhizal ecology icon.pngmycorrhizal, Image:Parasitic ecology icon.pngparasitic, Image:Saprophytic ecology icon.pngsaprophytic
  8. howEdible = indicates whether the mushroom is edible or poisonous. For now, this must be chosen from: Image:Choice toxicity icon.pngchoice, Image:Edible toxicity icon.pngedible, Image:Inedible toxicity icon.pnginedible, Image:Psychoactive toxicity icon.pngpsychoactive, Image:Poisonous toxicity icon.pngpoisonous, Image:Hazard T.svgdeadly, Image:Unknown toxicity icon.pngunknown

[edit] Example

These basic parameters can be specified in any order, but should be typed exactly as above, but excluding the = character. For example:

Phlebopus marginatus
mycological characteristics:
?
gills on hymenium

cap is infundibuliform

hymenium is seceding

lacks a stipe

spore print is buff or cream

ecology is mycorrhizal

edibility: unknown

{{mycomorphbox
| name = Phlebopus marginatus
| whichGills = seceding
| capShape =infundibuliform
| hymeniumType=gills
| stipeCharacter=NA
| ecologicalType=mycorrhizal
| sporePrintColor=buff
| sporePrintColor2=cream
| howEdible=unknown
}}

Generates the mycomorphbox at right:

All parameters other than name and hymeniumType can now be specified with a secondary characterisitic. For example, a mushroom might appear with both convex and flat caps at maturity, this can be indicated in the mycomorphbox by adding a second capShape parameter, simply by repeating the parameter name followed by the numeral 2:

|capShape=flat
|capShape2=convex

This can be done with the following parameters: capShape, whichGills, stipeCharacter, sporePrintColor, ecologicalType, howEdible.

[edit] Need help adding a mycomorphbox?

1.) Feel free to contact any of these users if you would like assistance:

2.) Or, simply include this template to the top of the article: {{mycomorph-missing}}. This will generate the following box (and someone one will come along and add the mycomorphbox shortly):
