Tenoch was a purported ruler of the Aztecs during the fourteenth century during the Aztec (or Mexica) travels from Aztlán to Tenochtitlan. Tenoch was a respected chief who was elected to power by the council of elders. Tenoch is thought to have died about twenty five years after the founding of Tenochtitlan near the year 1350. Supposely, Tenochtitlan is also named after him. Tenochtitlan is a Nahuatl word meaning "place founded by Tenoch". There is significant disagreement whether Tenoch is mythological or a real Mexica leader, later mythologized.

The Nahuatl symbols of his name are found in the Mexican flag: Tetl, the rock, and Nochtli, the prickly pear cactus.
