The Tenpō reforms (天保の改革 tenpō no kaikaku?) were a series of government reforms during the Tenpō era of the Edo period. They brought reform to the military and economic systems, but they were also responsible for cleansing "domestic uneasiness", which led to the arrest of many prominent political figures and writers.
