The Bangs was the original name for the all girl rock band later renamed The Bangles. Founded originally in 1981, by sisters Debbi Peterson and Vicki Peterson with Susanna Hoffs as The Supersonic Bangs, later shortened to The Bangs. They were forced to change their name to The Bangles when a band from New Jersey, also named The Bangs threatened to sue. By 1982, they added bassist Annette Zilinskas and with this (new) lineup they released an extended play disc (EP) titled The Bangles (1982). Zilinskas left in 1983 and was replaced with Michael Steele, formerly of The Runaways. Zilinskas would later release records with Blood on the Saddle and the Ringling Sisters.
