The Broadway Theatre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Broadway Theatre is located in New York City, on 1681 Broadway (Broadway and 53rd Street). The seating capacity is 1,752. It is currently the home of Oprah Winfrey's production of The Color Purple.
It is typically the home of large musicals due to its extremely large stage, which measures nearly sixty feet deep. This can be accounted for by its former incarnation as a silent film house, which required that the area behind the screen accommodate a full orchestra.
The theatre opened as B.S. Moss's Colony Theatre on December 25, 1924.
