The Exploited is a Punk rock band from the second wave of U.K. punk rock, formed in late 1979 or early 1980.

They started out as an Oi! band, before mutating into an extremely influential street punk band and finally into a Hardcore punk band. Their later albums (from 1987 on) are considered to be crossover thrash. Formed in Edinburgh by ex-soldier Wattie Buchan, they signed to Secret Records in March 1981 and released their debut EP Army Life. The influential album Punks Not Dead followed the same year. Despite seemingly constant lineup changes, the band has continued into the 2000s and has developed a worldwide following. Their song "Sex and Violence" was a remake of a song called "Stars and Eagles" by an Oi! band called the Macs.^{[citation needed]}
