The Nineties Poets in Jordan is a label that refers to a group of poets who appeared in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The works of these poets differ from the works of previous poets in terms of themes, styles and language. While the political themes, in general, were a must in the poems of previous generations, the "Nineties Poets" returned to their inner selves as a major source for their themes. Details of daily life became more important than the "Big" issues of the age. They also refused the typical styles of expression and introduced new styles to the Arabic poem. For the "Nineties Poets", language is not a mere tool for writing poems; it is a poetic entity in itself.
