The Rolling Stone First Fifty Immortals and The Last Fifty list was a list of celebrities featured within a coverstory in Rolling Stone Magazine in April 2004 in commemoration the fiftieth anniversary of rock and roll. July 5th, 1954 was selected as the date that rock and roll was born, in commemoration of the day Elvis Presley recorded "That's All Right" at Sun Studio in Memphis. The magazine created a panel of 55 people from the music industry to choose the 20 people they thought were the most important people in music.

After weighing the ballots, they came to a conclusion of the top 100 musicians, and a description of the artists, and why they deserved to be considered immortals.
