Rhodes (Greek: Ρόδος - Ródos) is the main city of the Greek island of Rhodes, in the Aegean Sea. It is the capital of the prefecture Dodecanese. Its permanent population is approx. 60,000. Rhodes has been famous from the Ancient times. On Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Colossus of Rhodes. The citadel of Rhodes, built by the Hospitalliers, is one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Mediterranean.
