Too Much Johnson was a farce written by William Gillette during the 1890s. Orson Welles planned to revive it as part of the Mercury Theatre's second season in 1938. Welles planned to combine film footage with the production, and shot several scenes in and around Central Park in New York, making this Welles' first venture into film directing. The production was scrapped when the Mercury Theatre closed, and the film footage was lost forever when a home belonging to Welles burnt down in 1970.
