TrimSpa is a weight loss pill made by the company Goen Technologies. It is said to work thermogenically and by suppressing the user's appetite [citation needed]. TrimSpa formerly contained ephedra until that ingredient was banned in the U.S.. The new TrimSpa formula X32 contains no ephedra. Its active ingredient is Hoodia gordonii.
[edit] Background
TrimSpa is a diet pill that is said to include a “fat-blocker,” a “carbohydrate blocker,” and a “thermogenic herbal” component. The pills contain several under-researched ingredients that may or may not contribute to weight loss, and there have been no confirmed research studies on these pills regarding weight loss or safety. TrimSpa pills are taken 4-6 times per day, depending on your consultation results from the TrimSpa website.
Although the TrimSpa website lists several positive testimonials about the effectiveness of their product, other websites list a host of negative comments. The negative comments, as expected, reflect that the pills do not work as they are expected, with most individuals losing no or very little weight.
The pills contain chromium (a necessary trace mineral), which can be harmful to the kidneys if taken in large doses. Chromium may be beneficial in glucose regulation, but it is not proven if there are clear benefits for weight loss when using the mineral. The “fat blockers” contain shellfish extract, which may be a deadly allergen to those allergic to shellfish; the “thermogenic component” is green tea extract which contains caffeine, a diuretic that can contribute to weight loss through water loss (dehydration). As referenced above, the pills are thought to contribute to weight loss in three different ways: water loss caused by the caffeine, a feeling of fullness caused by the excess fiber in the pills, and by increasing glucose regulation in the body.
As with any “diet” plan, if you stop taking the pills you may be subject to regaining all of the weight you lost. This also depends on dietary and exercise habits. Any time a person loses weight quickly and does not commit to a true lifestyle change, he or she may be prone to regain the weight quickly. The best and safest way to lose weight and keep it off is through a well-balanced diet and regular exercise.
[edit] Cost of Trimspa

[edit] Over-the-counter disclaimer
These pills are considered herbal supplements and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not currently regulate them. Since you can obtain them without a prescription and there is not a recommended dose or length of consumption, it is possible that, like ephedra, some ingredients could be harmful. Herbal supplements are not typically pulled from the market unless something very drastic happens (e.g. people die or have very serious side effects from consumption of the supplement).
[edit] Celebrity Endorsements
Model Anna Nicole Smith made TrimSpa famous in commercials with the phrase "TrimSpa, Baby!".
