United Planets Cruiser C-57D

is the fictional starship seen in the classic 1956 MGM motion picture Forbidden Planet. Instead of being shown as a chemical-propulsion spaceship, as was the usual case in movies of the 1950s, the Cruiser C-57D was presented as a ground-breaking design in futuristic spacecraft. Although its rudimentary saucer-shape had been seen before as alien craft, this was a starship that was in the service of an Earth-based exploration organization, the United Planets.
