[edit] Biography
Growing up just north of San Diego, a scene that produced fellow bands such as longtime friends blink-182, as well as Agent 51, Unwritten Law has a distinctive power punk sound. The band features two guitar players (they previously had three) including Scott Russo, their chief songwriter and lead vocalist.
The band's Elva album was the #1 selling rock album in Australia in 2003 and they have toured extensively there, as well as touring all over the U.S. since the mid-1990s.
In 2004, the last original member of the band, Wade Youman, was kicked out for ongoing disputes with Russo over a woman and money. Considered an underrated drummer by some, Youman faded out of sight and made way for a tandem of drummers for the band's new album, Here's to the Mourning released February 1, 2005. Adrian Young of the popular band No Doubt and Tony Palermo of Pulley were the two drummers involved with the album. Palermo would end up joining Unwritten Law.
In March of 2005, guitarist Rob Brewer was kicked out due to "a number of volatile circumstances involving disputes between Rob and various band members, as well as interaction between Brewer and the fans". The catalyst came on March 23, 2005 at The House of Blues in Anaheim, California. Statements made by the band on their MySpace.com page accused Brewer of failing to know his parts for the song F.I.G.H.T, which led to an incident on stage where Rob punched singer Scott Russo in the face knocking out his front tooth. According to the band, Rob later chased Scott with a vodka bottle which he swung and broke on a door frame, severing half of his pinky finger. The statement also says that Rob "insulted the entire band, our families, and assaulted an innocent fan backstage who was waiting to meet us."
The band continued on their tour for "Here's to the Mourning" as a 4 piece, stating "Rob is irreplaceable, and therefore we will not be accepting any applications for a new guitar player. We will, however, continue to play our hearts out every single night for our fans."
