Upskirt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Upskirt is a slang term which refers to images (usually photographic) that expose the view "up" a woman's "skirt" (or dress). Upskirts can also be found in films, videos, or in illustrated form. While many Upskirts are captured consensually, a large number are taken surreptiously (i.e. without the consent of the woman). The images vary from shots of a woman's underwear, shots of a woman's underwear with "cameltoe", to shots of woman "freebuffing", and exposing either her vulva or buttocks. The creation and/or viewing of Upskirts are commonly considered a form of voyeurism.
Upskirts have also been a driving force behind a wave of State, local, and Federal legislation that began shortly after the advent of the camera phone in the year 2000.

[edit] Internet Presence
There numerous websites that are devoted solely to the display of Upskirts. A large number of these sites require payment to view the images. The pay-required sites tend to contain more staged images featuring women who are paid and often pretending to appear either shocked or oblivious to the camera. Other websites feature pictures and videos of "celebrity" Upskirts. Some of the more popular images are of Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears. While some of these images are genuine, many are altered in a variety of ways. Upskirts are also featured on many pornographic websites, both free and pay-required. The advent of cell phones fitted with cameras (a.k.a. camera phones) may be a reason for a surge in these types of photographs on various websites.
[edit] Legal consideration
Many states in Australia have passed laws making it illegal to take upskirt photos in public places without the subject's permission.
[edit] In Japan
In Japan, upskirt photography (or panchira), is a criminal offense. A famous case involved a man named Kazuhide Uekusa, who attempted to peep under a high school girl's skirt with a hand mirror at an escalator in Shinagawa Station. It's now required that all digital cameras and camera phones in Japan make an audible noise when taking a picture. This law was made with clandestine panchira photos in mind, so that a woman would notice if someone was taking a picture without her consent.
[edit] Variations
Similar to upskirts are downblouse and cameltoe images. Downblouses are involve showing a woman's cleavage and breasts. Cameltoes focus on the outline of the vulva through a woman's underwear or clothing.
"Visual Only Upskirters" attempt to see, but not photograph, underneath a woman's skirt or dress.
