Valmont (film)

Valmont is a 1989 Orion drama/romance motion picture starring Colin Firth, Annette Bening, Meg Tilly, Fairuza Balk, and Siân Phillips.
The movie was adapted for the screen by Jean-Claude Carrière and Miloš Forman, based on the French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses (1782) by Choderlos de Laclos, and was directed by Miloš Forman, with screenplay by Jean-Claude Carrière.
Valmont received an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design (Theodor Pistek).

The story is about a scheming widow, Merteuil (played by Bening), and her former lover, Valmont (played by Firth), who have a bet regarding the corruption of the Madame de Tourvel, (played by Tilly). Valmont bets that he can seduce her, even though she is an honorable woman. If he wins, he can have Merteuil to do with as he will. However, in the process of seducing Tourvel, he falls in love.
